I recently had a problem with my HT1000 and transmitting -- "HT1000 tx problem - advice needed" thread. I got the radio back today from the the shop, and it says they replaced the Jedi Microphonics Kit. Could someone explain what they fixed? I'm just learning about radios and am curious -- as well as wondering what the 84 bucks went towards. Of course, the radio works like a champ now! the coworkers are jealous! Thanks for all the help.

$80 ? you got by pretty cheap. The kit retails at $83.75 alone. The kit consists of
a new front shield (covers the PCB) to address grounding problems and a new control/flex set (on/off-vol switch,A-B-C switch, channel switch, side buttons).
Controls on the radio feel different ? It's
a 2 part kit and one or both components may have been installed.

OK $84, still a bargain!
The new shield kit should bring back Tx power
and Rx sensitivity compromised by poor grounding. Seems to be a needed item on some
older or well used HT-1000's. Anyone seen this same problem in other Jedi models ?

Thanks. The first thing I noticed were the knobs, switches and buttons were a lot tighter and worked better. The second thing I noticed was that the reception improved somewhat dramatically. I didn't realize all of that was fixed as well.

The bill was $84 for the kit, $35 for a cover, and the labor. I got a new readio for $160, so I'm not complaining - it's used for police/public safety, so it's taken its share of abuse, and probably needed the parts.

Since you've mentioned it, there are other Jedi radios in the area with the same problem - I'll have to mention this to them. Is this peculiar to just Jedis?

And the part number for the kit? Have an HT1000 that goes berserk on transmit just by touching the PCB shield.

I belive this "mod" was covered in SRN 1206.
The "Feild Retrofit Kit" is REX1171A and REX1172A
It contains a new front cover, controls flex, front sheild, labels, and two conductive pads.
The important parts needed to fix most radios are the two conductive pads 7505870Z03 and
Shield 2605891U02
The conductive pads go inside the front cover about 3/4 inch above the bottom, and the other oposite it on the shield so the two mate when the radio is put into the housing.
Also make sure all contact spots on the RF circuit board and chassis are clean. Same for the sheild contact points.

The microphonics kit I had replaced was REX4465A and the cover was REX4575A -- whether it's that or what Will believes, I don't know.

Will,
By any chance can you post that SRN or send it my way please ? I have the kits but
have never seen instructions for the proper
pad locations.
Thanks,
Jim

The REX4575 is the radio backplate. Requires notching of the rf board. Have changed a bunch of these due to the ant mounting nut falling out.

Found the SRN. It is SRN 1202,A,B,C,D. Looks like D covers everything in the previous four trys. SRN1202D is also in the PDF format. Let me know where to EMAIL if you can use it . It is a 76kb file.
