I'm interested in programming the same two Maxtrac radios with the codeplug info from one to the other.
I understand that the radio to be cloned needs to be "blanked out" before accepting the programming from the other.
I'm using RSS 6.1. Just what is the proceedure, using the F keys, that would clear out one radio? And, since the two radios are the same except for output wattage, are there any problem I would encounter?
Thanks!
Jim

Hopefully someone who has done this will let us know the exact procedure and also say what really gets cloned.
I have not tried to do this, because I don't know if the RSS will just copy the channel, mode, and PL/DPL info, or try to copy the entire code plug, which would include alignment settings as well. I'm pretty sure the cloning will NOT copy the model and serial number info, but I'm not sure about the rest.
If I were setting up a system consisting of 20 mobile radios, I'd want a cloning function that would only transfer the channel information to each radio, leaving everything else unique. This sounds too logical for Motorola, so until I hear further, I just write down (or print) the information from one radio, then manually enter it into the second, therefore I know exactly what I'm transferring.

That is exactly what the cloning function does. It copies the channel information, not the model & serial number or tuning data.
The operation of the cloning function in the Maxtrac RSS is not quite the same as in some other RSS and is somewhat difficult to master. Its operation is explained in the manual that comes with your RSS.
BTW - the radios must be IDENTICAL or the cloning function won't work.

You won't be able to use the clone feature as you have different model numbers (I assume because you said different power levels).
If you were able to clone, you don't have to blank out the receiving radio either, it will just overwrite it.....
Are you just trying to avoid typing in all the info by hand?

Manual? My RSS? I think you overestimate my legal possessions !
Who reads manuals any more?
Seriously folks, that's probably one of the reasons it's not used too much. Why should the radio's power level matter one bit if all I'm doing is making copies of the frequencies and modes (or whatever they're called)? In my case, I'm just trying not to have to re-enter all the data for the subsequent radios, and I certainly wouldn't want any other code plug data to be copied or cloned.
