Does anyone know if there are any regulations about the exportation of Motorola encryption devices?
The reason I am asking is this...I currently have an external encryption box up for auction on E-Bay and I received an E-mail from someone in Denmark asking if I'd ship it there. I indicated in the auction description for US bidders only, so I'm a bit hesitant to tell this gentleman yes.

Any ideas??

does the box have any actual encryption hardware in it? or is it just a control box?

IIRC, DVP and DVP-XL are ok for export, while DES and DES-XL are not.

according to the batlabs site DVI DVI-XL is a variant of DVP-XL for export outside of the US

so i woud guess thet only DVI is exportable outside the con. us.

I've seen it mentioned several times that
DVI-XL is the only exportable form of Motorola's digital encryption. If in doubt the US State Dept. is the agency responsible
for issuing munitions export licenses for such devices, easiest to just stick with domestic only sales.

I opened up the box and it does have a circuit board in it that contains one hybrid IC that has a Motorola P/N of TRN7036A, which according to the BATLABS encryption page is DES-XL.

Here's the e-bay link to my auction..

Your bidder in Denmark.... Jan, has been tring to get people to export encryption to him for quite some time, DVI and DVP are the only 2 I am aware of for export, that won't land you in federal prison that is. Not to mention the paperwork involved in out of country shipping. I would take a pass on that sale..... although he will offer you more than anyone else will.

SG,

Thanks for that info, I'm going to E=mail him and tell him thanks but not thanks!
I did time with Uncle Sam's Canoe Club, don't want to do time anyplace less cozy than the aircraft carrier I was on.

Later,
Pete
