upgrading MTX9000 + MTS2000 to have full keypad

Post by RidgeRunner »

If you have a MTX9000 or MTS2000 that has the display with 6 buttons and you wanted to upgrade it to have the full DTMF keypad. What exactly would you have to do? Is it what is highlighted in that MTSX section of the batlabs page with loading a different codeplug in? It seems to easy...?

Thanks

What radios do you own?: XTS2500, XTS5000, and MTS2000

Check the model specific information on MTSX series. Requires one to use MTSX Lab/Depot RSS to do it.
The MTX9000 can easily be made into a full keypad model, just change the plastic, then load a B7 codeplug into the radio. Be sure to write down the tuning values and softpots for the radio before slamming another codeplug into it, otherwise you'll have to spend hours tuning and aligning it. And be sure to backup your MTX9000 with LAB in case you hose something up.

MTS2000's are a little more involved, mainly due to the TOOLPROOFING issue. If your MTS2000 has firmware 5.41 or lower, you can use LAB/DEPOT on it and load a C7 MTS codeplug using the procedure above. If it is a newer version, using LAB/DEPOT will hose the radio, and produce the dreaded fail 01/93 error. These radios will forever be what they are.
