Oooh! New toy!
Moderator: Queue Moderator
Got a new toy today - HT1550. Don't know how many people have seen them, but got a very good deal on it. I like it so far, just waiting for someone to get me a cable so I can program it, and then I'll post a review. Anyone have a codeplug for a VHF version they could send me to play with in the mean time?
([email protected])

It's going to be interesting to see how it programs and such. It's kinda 1/2 programmed right now (long amusing story), so I'm waiting to do some more work on it. So far, i'm very impressed with it. The recieve is much better so far that that of the jedi series, it doesn't give that annoying hiss if it's sitting next to the computer monitor for a while...
I'll use it tonight on ambulance duty, and then i'll prob. be up to the wee hours of the morning programming it
That's the plan at least.

- What radios do you own?: XTS5000R, Astro Saber III, I
Still waiting on a cable... Should be getting one today... at least that's the hope
.
I used the radio for a while last night, it's quite nice, i just wish it had scan enabled, that would have helped just a bit.
One thing I will say is that it has a softer recieve, it sounds better than the Genesis/Jedi series of radios, and seems like it does a better job with weak signals.
After using it for a few hours, I have shown it to 3-4 people, and at least 1 of them will be calling Monday to order one, and 1-2 others seriously considering it.
I'm quite happy so far.
Iterms of the edit feature - I saw in the RSS where to turn it on. I was able to get a codeplug from someone for a UHF LTR radio, so I could begin poking around in the RSS and learning how to program it. When I went and looked in the help file It didn't specify what was required to do this. I'll play, and see where I can go with it

It's from an actual dealer. I was pretty suprised at the price when he origionally told me over the phone.
There is a guy who was selling them on ebay, however, they are the latin american version, and he had a Buy-It-Now of $649. However, for the extra $30, I got a REAL U.S. version, with a warrenty, etc.
I did call a dealer localy to see what his price was. He said that the price that I was quoted looked exaclty like his cost for a new HT1250. The price that he could find on the HT1550 was around $1050, which at that point, I'd just save a little while longer and go Astro.

If you're looking for a Professional Series based trunking radio, it's the MTX850/MTX8250 radios. We've only sold a couple so far, but the customer really likes them (has a mixture of MTX810's & MTX8000's otherwise). They'll do Type II/IIi, no Type I. An Aussie fellow on another board told me there was a SmartZone capable model, which he called the ATS2500. I can't confirm that. but I can confirm that there are greyed out SmartZone screens when I program the MTX850's, so who knows? On 2002-03-02 16:58, Ray D. O'Mann #2 wrote:

Alex,
Will this radio to mdc emergency recieve on conventional?
Secondly anyone know what the model nbr for the asia version is? Or if one exists.
Nick
EDIT, ok looks like it wont do decode of emrg ANI according to the spec sheet. Next question how big is your VHF antenna? I assume its the wide band. Any better then the good old jedi wide band pool que?

I was origionally going to buy from this guy, however it was a Latin American version of the radio. Because of this, when I found a US version for another 30 bucks, I thought it would be better dealing with warrenty issues... And I got it through a dealer in the end.
Nick - Answer to your question, it's not bad at all... Still getting used to it tho

Ok.
This has to be the dumbest way I have ever seen to setup a scan list, but it works now...
Next trick - how do I set the scan time to 250ms as opposed to the 750 that the rss changes it to if I put that number in, when the help says it will do 250ms?
