Repeater wiring color scheme?

Post by Jonathan KC8RYW »

This is for those who have built/maintained a lot of repeaters.

Does anyone use a specific color scheme for their repeater wiring?

For example, PTT green, etc.

I 'm just curious.

I have built/maintained several repeaters and have never noticed or even considered any kind of color code, other than using black for ground and red for +12v power. Since there aren't too many other signals running around, they're usually pretty easy to follow. Ditto with pin numbers on connectors, although in my repeater using Radius radios, I maintained the MIC jack pin numbers all the way to the 8-pin DIN connectors I used on the controller enclosure. Inside the controller I used whatever wire I could grab. Some is #22 solid with Teflon sleeving. Some is rainbow-colored wire from an old piece of flat floppy-drive cable.
