I have heard rumors that it is possible to connect a Maxtrac (16 pin acc connector) to a Spectra A5. Can anyone tell me if this will be an incredibly difficult feat? As far as I can tell, and I'm no engineer, the only thing missing from the works is a COR output from the Spectra.
I tried getting ahold of WILL, by email, to get an extender module, and haven't had much luck yet. I am trying to put together some kind of mobile extender. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!
Spectra/Maxtrax interface question

This can be done. I'm doing it right now for a repeater. (Maxtrac 900 Rx with Spectra 900 TX) but I did origionally set up a spectra for the receiver as well. I just couldn't get the preselector to tune the way I wanted, so I switched to a maxtrac...
You can get COR from a few different places in the radio depending on what exactly you want. The problem you'll run into, however, is matching audio levels. It may work well, it may not.
Also, you may have to screw around a bit to make your radio "data capable" if you want to run flat audio.
I'm currently working on a couple A3 spectras for someone, accomplishing this objective. I am documenting my work as well, and plan to put up a web page with the information, with pictures, et cetera.

John,
The radios will only be used for voice. No data. If it's not too much trouble, when you finish the web site, send me the address. I am looking to get something done fast, as our lack of decent portable radio coverage is scary at best. Then again, going from the lowest elevation in the county, our city; across very unlevel terrain is a challenge for even the 50 watt vehicle radio. Like a portable would do better, heh. I have toyed with the idea of carrier pigeons, but I would like to try the maxtrac/spectra mating first.

Sorry Randy, what you are describing is NOT a "plug and play" application. The ones I do require the Spectra to be modified here. I do not have the audio level or other problems that thehead7 relates to. Then it is plug and play for the customer.
You are still going to need some isolation and rejection due to trying to operate in band VHF.
