P110 GP300 Low Power Output

Post by Daniel Watson »

I have a few of these portables that don't even raise my wattmeter but are still transmitting, but weak. Everything sounds great, just low power. Is this very hard to repair?

There are a few things it could be. First, has anyone messed with the tuning fuctions of the radio's, i.e. in the service menu? I've received some radio's that had low power output and were due to tuning issues. If nobody messed with them, it could be a few things.

If the radio can be heard okay when the radio's are close to each other, but doesn't go much more than a couple of blocks, then I would speculate that it is something in the RF PA module.

I have some GP300's to tune/fix, so I'll be digging in to the GP300's soon... A good tech can quickly diagnose your radio's for you with the proper equipment.

Tighten the mounting screws on the PA modules. These are the only ground for the module and sometimes they are loose.
