Hi Guys...SO I finally got an awesome, clean MSF5000 CXB model. I also have a Zetron Model 38 controller currently controlling an R100 repeater.
Long story short, I am going to attempt to interface the 38 to the MSF..
Any Thoughts, Questions, Concerns, Helpful Hints.....
Also, I want to make this secure a des-xl box.....What do I need to do this so it will pass only my code and/or clear PL'd transmissions.
Thanks, Rob

RE: Got An MSF5000 and Zetron 38: Input Needed
In the MSF 5000 group at yahoo groups, someone has the the interface instuctions listed in the files section for the 38. It shows connections for the analog and digital MSF's.
Can't help you with the secure part.
Good luck,
Gary

My two bits worth:
Connecting the Zetron to the MSF is stright forward, however if you also want secure that is another matter.
Normally, when interfacing an external controller it is asumed that the controller will take over all control functions of the control board with the exception of the actual radio functions.
The MSF is programmed as a carrier squelch base station. PL detection, generation and squelch as well as repeat level are handled by the external controller.
The problem with secure is that you can not use PL, or any other signalling along with the 12KB encrypted signal.
A transparent station is controlled by the Secure module when it detects the 12KB secure signal.
The Zetron cannot process this signal.
Therefore you are going to use the Zetron for PL detection, and generation, leaving the station to process the audio.
I am not sure about your programming. I think making the station carrier squelch repeater, but leaving the PL requirement in the repeater key line would prevent the station from keying on signal, the PTT would have to come from the Zetron except for Secure which is a different circuit altogether.
Connect the PTT lead to the PTT test switch front terminal on the control board.
This will key the station with out muting the local speaker. It is convienient to monitor the station during maintenance.
It may be necessary to change the PTT qualifiers so the repeat audio does not mute with local PTT.
Another possibility would be to install a factory MCS board.
I have a few of these somewhere. I installed Zetron panels..
