GMRS Antenna

Post by Larry »

Looking at setting up a base station GMRS antenna and was looking for options for equipment under $200. I'd like something that is of fair quality and that will last. I've been doing a little research and found stuff that ranges from $50 to $650..... I'd like to get something as inexpensive as I can but still perform...

Thanks

The good old Cushcraft Ringo Ranger is hard to beat for a cost effective antenna. They're basically a vertical aluminum antenna. They are going to be the max gain (5dBi or 7dBi) for the dollar probably. The Ringo Ranger is 5dBi, and the Ringo Ranger II is 7dBi.

Here are the specs for the Ringo Ranger http://www.cushcraft.com/details.asp?st ... roup_id=22

And for the Ringo Ranger II http://www.cushcraft.com/details.asp?st ... roup_id=22

The CRX450 is going to run you $89, and the CRX450B is $124. Shipping will be about $8. They're in-stock and ready to ship if you want one.

Thanks!

My two bits worth:
So many factors.
I presume that you are using a duplexer.
You must very very careful about antenna noise.
If your station is in a very corrosive atmosphere you may find metallic antennas with screws, and various seperate parts causing no end of problems due to noise when excited by a transmitter.

This sort of problem comes with time, and is usuially intermittent.

Check out 2 way radio shops in your area. Used commercial UHF business band antennas are available.
