What are the key differences between these two models? Is there a reason to purchase one over another if your primary operation with it is going to be conventional?

XTS3500 is conventional only, only available in UHF and VHF, uses different RSS than the XTS3000, and has a better performing receiver (although it is the same on paper).

In conventional only systems, the XTS3500 might be the way to go.
