Greetings to all,
The service I am with is putting up a single site (for right now) talk around repeater for us to use instead of tying up the counties channels. It is mainly for mobile to mobile, and some portable stuff but not meant to be a main communication channel.
We are using a GE Mater III repeater (which I know some things about, well enough to get it up and runing) and we see under the repeater settings that we can have it set-up with two different inputs for repeating.
So we thought since some people use there radios as pagers and maybe on the T/A rptr. we might want to have the paging freq as an input and then have it come out over the output of the repeater.
Example: Repeater is 155.XXXX for an INPUT, and 154.XXXX for an OUTPUT. Paging is 158.XXXX for it's freq. So we would set-up the repeater for the following: 1.) 155.XXXX IN, 154.XXXX OUT. 2.) 158.XXXX IN, 154.XXXX OUT. That way any time a page would come though we would get it to come over our repeater in case someone was not on the paging channel.
Now there are multi tower sites for paging and the PL is different per tower so we would be ok so that we could monitor only our tower and be able to copy the whole tone in order to set off our pagers.
Also note we are in the process of finding out what we would have to do in order to obtain license status in order to do this.
Another reason we want to do this is that we are licensed to page from our base station and sadly we can not get out as well as our repeater. Since we have two channel MIII's and MIV's and have the repeater as the second channel we thought this might be a good way to cover all the basis for emergency paging.
So my question to everyone here is has anyone else ever done or seen this and if so what has been the feel or take on the whole deal???

My two bits worth:
I do not know all of your details, but I think that you are going to need a second receiver.
Possibly you could obtain a second receiver for your particular station or
I am thinking of somthing such as a Motorola satellite receiver.
(Micor voting receiver)
I presume that it could be interfaced using the 600Z line input with the E&M keying option.
I am not very familiar with the MASTR lll, so I can't be of much help in the programming issues.
You will need a seperate yagi antenna and cavity filter for the paging receiver.
Keep in mind that any traffic on the T/A repeater would be interrupted by traffic on the paging frequency.
I see no real problem with this set up.

How about a quantar Repeater with dual RX?
RX1=155.xxx
RX2=158.xxx
TX=154.xxx
I think you can program priority to each RX.

The dual recieve is an option with the GE Master III I believe here. Just was wondering if anyone has done it or not.
I think what I may end up doing is taking a comp. and putting in 3 rx sites. 2 for the repeater input and one for the paging freq and go from there.
Still have to do more testing and license verification before it can all go up. Ah the problems of system design.

I suppose you could use the console priority input of the Motorola comparitor, giving the paging the priority.
Just using the receiver inputs would not work.
How would the comparitor be able to decide which receiver to use?
If your station can use dual receivers as an option would be the most reliable way to go.
Scanning would not work because of the duplexer.
Remember this is "Public Safety" not a ham issue.
If there is a problem, and you are not around whom is going to fix it?
Generally you are better off keeping things stock.
