Guys
i know this is a very broad question, but for you folks that have recently upgraded do you recall what the pricing schedule may be? I am trying to test the waters and see how receprive our chief may be to spending some $$$ What we would be looking at would be a two position set up to control a conv uhf system. any info would be appreciated.
thanks

You may have already missed the boat. Word is that Motorola has stopped selling Gold Elite and upgrades for customers with conventional systems. They are still accepting orders for trunked systems.
If you really want to upgrade - get in touch with your Motorola rep [factory direct person - NOT a local dealer - this pretty much means public safety systems only]. You might still be able to get an upgrade if the sales person can convince higher-ups that your account merits one.
Cost-wise, at one time the upgrades were about 50% of the purchase price. In other words, about $6000 per operator and $700 per BIM. Add to that new computers, operating system software, system integration and programming costs.

thanks for the info, I am betting that we will have to go new the whole way. But your numbers help out, what we have now is (non upgradeable anyway) my post was not too specific. Our dispatch center has a centracom I series, so with that in mind rough math i figure about 30-35k for a 2-position set-up.
thanks again

hey thanks for the post! All i can say is wholy cripes with those console prices i can't understand why my Mot stock is still in the tank!
Have any of you folks had any good/bad experience with Zetron? i was at their web-page and it seems like thy have a pretty neat crt based dispatch console set-up. Have any of you guys /installed repaired or used any of these zetron systems? Any issues with zetron and advanced Mot signalling ie radio call emerg decode ect?

I saw the new console system yesterday that Motorola was switching two. Another poor user interface decision in my oppinion. I played with it for two minutes before walking back over to play with the Gold Elite. I think they had a relativly user friendly piece of software with the gold elite, the newer system looks rather ugly, like some kid in 1st grade designed it.
There are inherent design flaws in the console itself where you sometimes can't see a complete alias here and there, but for the most part, I actually like the centracom we have at the ambulance I volunteer with.
I'm sure the newer console is easier to deal with when it comes to the backend system. (e.g. lack of CEB).
