I am thinking of getting this as my first GMRS repeater? I thought of throwing it out there for comment. I want my own "private" repeater what I am saying I don't want to share with a club or group, I already belong to a GMRS group in the area.
I am told it is rated for 18 watts and that it is a crystal controlled unit. I think it is worth less that $300.00 so for the first one I think it would work well enough.
I have a site that would be great I can see as far as I would want to talk so I would assume that 18 watts would be more than adequate.
Does anyone have any experience or know of anything that I should know, other than it is old and not programmable, the place that I am going to get it from is talking about $125.00 to tune it and change the freqs to GMRS.
One other comment I find it funny that there is not more activity on GMRS since for $75.00 you can pretty much do what commercial systems can due. In my area there are only about 12 listings on the GMRS.ORG site for the Bi-State area I do realize that most of you are here regarding professional equipment as was I when I joined but still strikes me odd.
