Seeking Advice on Repeater

Post by Larry »

I'm interested in setting up a small GMRS repeater (50 watts) and was looking for advice on which equipment would be reliable without being overkill. I'd also like to have a set up with a single antenna.... Been looking on Ebay and there such a variety.... I'd like to get something that doesn't need a lot of additional equipment to set up...

If you aren't a radio-guy, then you would probably want a repeater like Vertex, Patriot, etc in a cabinet with everyting inside, you can mount it nearer to the antenna (usually are wall mount) and they are fairly plug and play with a good antenna and a run of t-line.

On the other hand, If you have some know how, buy 2 Motorola mobiles (M120, M130, M10, GM300, M208/16, M1225...) with 16 pin plugs and make your own. You'll need a duplexor and a power supply. You can use a very simple cable to connect them, or there is a Will dude on here that sells a neat little controller you can use with the mic plug on one and the 16 on the other radio. At any rate you are going to have some money in this to do it decent.

I think this is what Quarterwave is reffering to.

Yes, I build the Repeater Module seen between the radios.
The rest is fairly simple to assemble.
