What radios do you own?: Motorola XTS3000

XTS5000 Question

Post by Mercenary »

Can anyone advise me if the only way of telling if a Motorola XTS5000 is a alpha series or developmental model is by the serial number. For example, a alpha series or developmental model of the XTS5000 will have a serial number of 123ABC1234 and all other XTS5000 without this serial number are legit, factory release models. Also is there any other way of finding out if a XTS5000 is a alpha series developmental model or a legit factory release radio. Thanks.

There is no way to tell if a radio has a "alpha" codeplug that requires developmental CPS to read/write. However the alpha radios floating around all have the 123ABC s/n and have version 2.20 firmware.

WHile there are radios that do not require the alpha CPS that have the 123ABC s/n and also have 2.20 firmware there are no alpha radios with a legit s/n and firmware other than 2.20 (that I know of).

to add to that, i have seen alpha radios.

the first nick 5000's that he sold were all alpha cps radios - and he sent the software to each buyer (gotta love nick the jailbird)

i didn't buy any from him, nor is the one that i have from him

alpha radios i saw were host and dsp 2.00.00 with serial #'s 123ABC
and would NOT read or write with release CPS

the radio i have is host /dsp 2.20.00 w/ serial 123ABC and reads/writes with version 4.00 release s/w.

hope that makes some sense.

bottom line here is that unlike the xts 3000 series, the firmware stored serial number in the 5000 is NOT CURRENTLY MODIFYABLE BY ANYONE. Nor do any of the current feature/flash bump tricks work on the 5000.

it's a truly WYSIWYG radio and probably will be for some time.

if the features you need are not in a radio you get on the 2nd hand market - then you are SOL.
