MSF NOT TAKING NEW MCS BOARD VERY WELL!!

Post by Shaniafan »

I'M TRYING TO INSTALL AN MCS BOARD INTO A DIGITAL MSF VHF REPEATER BUT I KEEP GETTING THE d89 ERROR CODE (MCS BOARD NOT RESPONDING) U803 WAS SUPPOSED TO BE REPLACED ACCORDING TO THE MANUAL BUT THIS REPEATER WAS BUILT IN 1992 AND I DIDN'T GET THE IC WITH THE MCS BOARD SO IT WASN'T REPLACED. I JUST WONDER IF THERE ARE SOME JUMPERS TO CHANGE OR A MODIFICATION I NEED TO DO THAT IS NOT IN THE MANUAL I RECEIVED - IF ANYONE CAN HELP ME PLEASE EMAIL ME FOR MORE INFO IF NEEDED

After you take Phrawg's advice and find your shift key, you will want to look for an EEPROM chip for the SSCB in your station - it's necessary for proper operation of the MCS option.

The EEPROM and the most station recent firmware kits come with the MCS board when you buy it from Motorola. A station manufactured in 1992 probably has recent enough firmware to be OK with the MCS, but if you got the MCS off ebay or some such - it could have old firmware. Those boards were available even in the CLB analog stations - no telling how old yours is.

My two bits worth:
I presume that this is the MCS board that I sent to NY.
I mentioned that the SSCB should be Rev 5.xx, but was assured that
the station had latest firmware.

The board came from an early CLB, perhaps the firmware chip needs to be replaced on the MCS board.
I have never installed one of these so I don't know.
I know where there is a digital station with MCS, I could copy the firmware chip.
