Motorola Mostar Mobile
Does anyone have any information on this Motorola Mobile. Are they upgradable? Do they have special programming software or conditions? They have the std RJ Mic jack but does the same rib & programming cables that are used with the M120 GM300 & Maxtrac work on this radio?
Any information would be appreciated. Thank you

Ideas for mostar uses: paperweight, doorstop, boat anchor
You get the idea.
They Require a MIB (mostar interface box) NLA from (/\/\)
Or Require a eprom burner and some knowledge of Hex
and a lot of free time
Even the screws on this thing had to be tourqued just right or it would malfunction.

My two bits worth:
Funny thing you should ask about the Mostar:
I probably could program a 800Meg Type-1 trunking unit, however I don't have a clew how to program a UHF unit.
One came in the shop, and as the old timer, I was supposed to know about it.
I think that it would make a meidicore wheel chock, or paper weight.
Is there some information how to program one of these puppies?

I have some info on programming the VHF and UHF on my website under "Mostar Radios".
The UHF / VHF Mostars can be programmed by:
a PC using the correct software (no longer available from Motorola) and a Mostar Interface Box (no longer available from Motorola)
or a Motorola / Epson laptop (no longer available from Motorola) with the appropriate software.
or a Motorola R-1801 suitcase (no longer available from Motorola) with the appropriate firmware and adapter cards.
All of the Mostar programming methods involved conversion of the serial programming data into parrallel data and was then directly loaded into the eeprom.

The poor Mostar is a lot like the Chevy Corvair. The first Corvairs did have a lot of the problems Ralph Nader complained about. Chevy fixed most of those problems and the later ones had a much better suspension, but everyone still says they were all bad.
Same with Mostar. The first ones Motorola sold were on 800 [also available in a low tier product called Traxar]. The were every bit as bad as everyone says. They are totally worthless today.
Later Motorola came out with the UHF and VHF Mostar. These may still have some issues but are a much better product than the 800 versions.

MOSTAR programming..
Hello,
The Mostar programs through an edge connector on the top (CPU) board. They do not program via the RJ-11 Mic connector. If you need to program several VHF or UHF radios I can provide you with a MIB replacment and software for $35 plus shipping. This device will work with either the Motorola RSS or with software I have written.

MCX-100 Programming
I can program MCX-100 radios (frequency and PL). I use a commercial programmer for the 82S129/82S131 PROM chips and I have my own program that will generate the PROM binary file.
