bandsplits / model #'s on UHF XTS 5000's

Post by batdude »

the UHF 5000's are starting to hit the streets (literally)

question

the UHF band has been extended due to the release of some 20Mhz of previous AM aircraft band (380-400Mhz)

the UHF radios i've seen are all "Q" models - which on an astro spectra is the kiss of death 403-433 bandsplit

can one assume that the UHF 5000, as currently offered (380-?? Mhz) is indeed 380-470 (a 90 Mhz split!) radio??

Yes, 380-470 is the "Q" model. The range 2 is 450-512.

Almost got it right, George, but not quite. The XTS5000 UHF Conventional Range 1 is (indeed) 380 - 470 MHz, but Range 2 is 450 - 520 MHz (vice your stated range of 450 -512). Check your current Motorola Price Book. And, No, I don't know anything about the use of the 512 - 520 MHz area. I'm just reporting what is in the current PB. I suppose the PB could be wrong, but I doubt it. I also checked my eCat, and it also shows the 450 - 520 MHz range, so I'm confident that this is correct.

Maybe someone on the board knows what the FCC story is concerning the 512 - 520 MHz area, and could report out to us?

BTW, the 380 - 470 MHz range was the initial release of the Conventional UHF XTS5000. The 450 - 520 MHz band in the XTS5000 said "Not available until June, 2004," so I assume this range was released after the Ham radio friendly range.

Thanks for the correction. We don't have any of the UHF range 2's :-)
