SPECTRA A3
Moderator: Queue Moderator
I am getting a spectra A3 and was wondering if there is any way to extend the contoller cable so that the TX/RX pack can be placed in the trunk. It is a 35w unit UHF, I know that motorola makes a cable but I don't know it's # but I bet there is another way to extend that without the expense. Any ideas would be appreciated.

You pretty much need a DB25 Male to DB25 Female extension cable - you might be able to find one that is for a computer, just as long as it's straight through, you should be OK. Just make sure that the wires aren't crossed... you'd probably have better luck (interms of cost) than going with a motorola solution....

i show the cable p/n as HKN6096, about $90 new from M.
this is the same cable as my astro W3 uses....it's a carryover from the analog spectra line.
it has the appropriate Y in the cable for the ignition sense 15 pin cable.
however, i would also agree that any decently shielded STRAIGHT THROUGH DB25 cable will work just fine.

Bumping an old thread for clarification:
Are the Spectra A3 extension cable (HLN6092x) and the Astro Spectra W3 extension cable (HKN6096x) cross-compatible? My gut feeling says yes, but I wanted to double-check before dropping cash.

Deeezayum! I can't say I've got an answer to that question, but you just regurgitated an EIGHT year old thread. That's gotta be a new record!!! I'm holdin' up my "high two".... No offense, dude.

I was aware of that; hence the "bumping an old thread" comment. I dislike multiple threads. I also dislike smoking HMN4044 W3 heads because I used an incompatible cable. ;psethcwilliams wrote:..but you just regurgitated an EIGHT year old thread. That's gotta be a new record!!!

Ditto to the ebay comment. Both A-3's and W3's remote cables have been poping up on ebay CHEAP $20-30 bucks lately. Thats how I got mine, and No longer speaker cable is necessary. The cable hookup and speaker plug pretty much explains itself when you see it in person.

Answer is NO, unless you want to smoke something.

I am using a straight through DB25 cable from a computer supplier with no problem. I'm only using a 2 foot cable so I cannot tell you that a longer cable will work, but I'd bet on it. The speaker audio doesn't go through the same cable on the A3. The newer A3 uses a round cable that you might have to source on eBay.
