Astro Spectra W5 to W9 compatability Question.

Post by GeoloJess »

Does anyone know if a Astro Spectra with the ID# T04KLF9PW5AN would support a W9 head with siren functions. I went to the decoding page and it showes the physical package as limited features with display. Any help would be appreciated.

No, it will only support the W5 head. Like the older Spectra line, unless you can modify the firmware in the radio to a W9 model number (with the associated control head data) it will not "plug and play".

What radios do you own?: X9000 thru APX

By defualt, the W4/W5 are 128 channel radios. The W3/W7/W9 are 255. Honestly I don't think there are any differences besides the software in there, so I don't know if dumping a W9 plug in there will get you beyond 128 without a problem. I really don't know.

I'd venture to say if you were able to get a W9 plug in the radio, it would work.
