Remote ASTRO Programming via Latest CPS

Post by ASTROMODAT »

Has anyone tried the new feature that allows you to remotely program an ASTRO Spectra or XTS? Just curious about any feedback.

The way I undserstand this, smart Batlaber types should be able to connect their PC via the internet (and tie into the users intranet LAN) to another distant/remote Batlaber needing assistance. The connection would be via the PC attached to the target ASTRO radio. This way, helpful and knowledgable Batlabers could enter any of the CPS commands remotely, and see the results (e.g., read and write via CPS remotely).

'Remote Programming' feature enables the ability to read-from and write-to
a radio attached to a remotely located computer. Communication occurs
across the computer’s LAN based intranet.

This feature gets enabled in View->Options->Advanced Options page.

A second application (NetworkRadioProg.exe) needs to be installed in a
second computer (Remote machine) in order for this feature to work. This
application is located in the “NetworkRadioProgrammer” folder in the CPS CD.

It is only available for Windows XP, Windows NT and Windows 2000.
Please refer to the readme.txt file in the “NetworkRadioProgrammer” folder
for additional information.

Thanks, in advance.

I wouldn't trust it for various reasons. One main one now is with the problems Microsloth has been having with XP's SP2. I'd wait until the reports start coming in on success after success before I fried my $$ radio.

You could, in theory, do this with any CPS. Just get a program like UltraVNC, or, if both machines are Windows XP, you could use Remote Desktop...then you can control the remote computer as if you are sitting infront of it.

I don't see any reason why this wouldn't work with CPS.
