Astro Spectra control head, problem in the radio unit. HELP!

Post by Ranger522 »

While at work last night, the A4 control head on my Astro Spectra, flashed busy, then died. I can still monitor the last frequency that it was on, but cannot change channels or anything else. Also cannot Tx. (Can turn on/off)

Was able to read code plug and access with CPS tuner as well and didn't see any problems. I have checked all connections on the radio and head including the power leads to the head itself.

Is the control board bad?

I am at a loss. HELP!!!!!!

I am going to work now (LE) with only a portable. Might as well be a scanner.

Had that happen to my analog Spectra. Replaced the control head and back in business. It's overkill but I didn't want to hunt for the bad component then.

Thanks for the reply, I swapped radio units with a coworker to test the head and found that the head is fine, the problem is in the radio itself.

Does anyone know what could cause these symptoms in the radio unit?

Please let me know.
