Whelen 295HFSA1 fall-off tone?

Post by WheLeN »

Does anybody know how to generate a sort of fall-off tone (like when the police are pulling someone over and the wail starts at like 3/4 of the entire wail and ends quickly) i tried everything, Just curious

depending on the model, it's pushing the manual button in "MAN"

our revision behaves like a Q in that mode.

selector in PA mode, then touch manual - this will yield that particular tone... AND this will give you the quasi electronic Q function where you control the cycle's peak and hold (like with a footpedal on a Q).

Put the knob on PA, push manual or horn ring, it will rise and fall with the button, just like a Q. If you jsut give it a quick tap, it will do exactly as you describe, a quick ramp up to about 1/2 and then a longer ramp down to stop.

That sounds like what your looking for. It's technical name is "Ramp up" and "Ramp Down"

LOL np, at least u gave a reply. :D

While we're on the subject of Whelen, Has anyone noticed that recently they changed all the sirens with the letter "Q" in the model number to an M? like the ALPHA 12Q, now it's the ALPHA 12M and the 295HFSQ1 is now the 295HFSM1... hmm, wonder why? Maybe Fed-Sig got mad or something *chuckle*

I suspect your exactly right about why they went from Q to M.

And as a tidbit...

Not all 295 sirens will ramp up than down. Many will just ramp up and stop upon release.

Also, there is a jumper change you can do that will turn the pier into Hi/Low, but I can't find the sheet that showed it.

Correction, the horn ring will do AIR HORN when the knob is set for PA on those sirens. It is only the MAN button that does the ramp up/down while set for PA.

Sirens with a seperate MAN and Air Horn button will usually do the ramp up/down. Sirens with just a MAN button usually only do the ramp-stop. Reason being, when the siren is in PA mode, the MAN button will do airhorn instead.

I tried that HiLo once on an Alpha siren I was putting in the Cheif's car just to see what it sounded like. I wouldn't use that if the world was ending.

I love cruisin around in HiLo - makes me feel very euro...
Biggest problem with HiLo in a response is that people don't know what to look for - and move out of the way for...esp in smaller vehicles, unmarked's etc.

I like it too, I use it in the engine sometimes....just to make more noise...figure the more annoying it is, the more it's doing what it is supposed to.
