What radios do you own?: Too many!

It's just a single chip going from CX to DX.

I did a DES (3011CX) a while back. It was very easy and it still works like a champ. It only ran me about $100.00 or so for the chip.

I'm not sure if the DVP would use the same chip as the DES. If it doesn't, you may have a hard time trying to find one that is reasonably priced. There's a ton more of DES stuff floating around, hence the cheaper price.

Good luck!

Simple answer -- NO,

The CX upgrade requires replacing two IC's, whereas a BX requires only one.

That other chip is just a memory chip (8 pin socketed IC if i remember correct) and costs a few bucks.

BX to DX and CX to DX should be exactly the same. BX includes a higher memory eeprom that stores the actual key data. Since the CX model already has this higher memory eeprom for the key data the CX to DX conversion only comes with the ROM eprom which in theory would be exactly then same in BX or CX to DX upgrade. After all you are completely changing the ROM eprom, not changing its programming. So why would two ROM chips that end up making the unit a DX be different??

Another question to toss onto this thread....

Can a 3020AX be upgraded to do DES/XL in any fashion?
If so, how far can it be upgraded, at what cost?
thanks,
