If you order a brand new ASTRO Spectra from Motorola today, then, Yes, it can be equipped with the AES UCM new from the factory.

If you have any earlier vintage ASTRO Spectra radio than the very latest model, then there may be two issues to deal with: the radio's firmware, and hardware modifications with various discretes.

There is a service bulletin on the ASTRO Spectra indicating the firmware required, and about 7 hardware changes required, in order to accommodate the UCM for DES-OFB. Later model ASTRO Spectras have accordingly fewer hardware changes required (and models that are about 18 months old have no h/w issues) in order to accommodate the UCM for DES-OFB. My sense is that the service bulletin for the DES-OFB UCM may also apply to the UCM for AES.

I would suggest you get with your Motorola salesman and ask him. He will likely need to query EYES, and if he can't find an answer there, you'll need to have him get with your local Motorola FTR.

Does anyone happen to have a copy of this service bulletin?
