XTL 1500
Wow---this thing is chunky! I like the look a lot. Its price point puts any thought of off-shore P25 competition to rest. No encryption, though.

big deal...looks like a cheap pro-series piece of crap no doubt built off shore in malaysia or china. ONE SYSTEM only? jeez...so much for that "interoperability" you get with Astro P25..oh wait, that is an additional 5000 dollars.
no thanks I will wait till Vertex builds a P25 version of the VX4000...at least it isn't built in china, has a 3 year warranty, doesn't require a 50 page licensing agreement to program, and looks a hell of alot better than this plastic gaudy piece of dog crap with batwings on it.

The new style of XTL series mobiles are acutally pretty good, now for the control head, I agree they should stay with the ASTRO style control head. We have several XTL 5000 mobiles convential, trunking, digital, analog, etc....The "guts" of the radio and the main cotnrol unit are built very rugged and the radio perfroms almost perfect. We currently do not have any of the new style control heads, however, from what I am seeing I dont like it!

Don't bet your savings account on any of the 3 Rice Rocket Boys to save the world with great price points on the basement end of P25 gear. For example, icom recently announced that its el cheapo P25 portable will have a street price of $1,700. I would expect that Vertex and Kenwood will follow suit, as they always do, with regards to their P25 low end radio pricing. Compare $1,700 to the street price of less than $1,100 for Motorola's XTS 1500 and XTL 1500. $600 less, and you get a Motorola versus a rice rocket. Who cares if it is built/assembled off-shore? More than 50% of the Boeing 777 is built off-shore, with the final assembly in Everett, WA. The difference is who designed it and spec'ed the assembly process, etc.
I don't think Vertex nor Kenwood are going to ride in on a P25 low end white horse. I had some hope that these guys might give Motorola some competition, thus putting some downward pressure on Motorola's low end P25 price points. It looks like Motorola anticipated this, and struck a fatal blow to their low end competitors with a pre-emptive strike. Maybe the rice rocket guys helped us, in this regards.
Motorola does it again---the ol' 1,2 punch, and America wins again!

yeah, your "america" wins again, made by muslim terrorists in malaysia, israel and communist china.
at least the "rice rocket" boys build their stuff in house.
and they back it with a 3 year warranty.
get overself larry. motorola doesn't have a cheerleading camp.
i still say one system id is a joke. where's the "interoperability" in this great motorola cow pattie?

Good luck on getting a YaeComWood turned around in 3/5 days on repair. You better buy two, so you can use the second one for parts.

malaysia is the largest non-arabic muslim nation in the world.
china is a communist state.
nothing new here. muslim terrorists declared war on the US and murdered thousands of our citizens on 9/11/2001. exporting our jobs to these terrorist supporting nations is a good thing because why?
I love it how people always say "buy american" but why is unemployment at an almost 7 percent when companies like Ma M, General Motors, etc export AMERICAN jobs to foriegn lands and some people feel this is good? we should support companies who do this? Motorola laid off thousands in december of 2001 and exported, outsourced and downsized. then mr. galvin steps down. Some of you folks need to take off those rose colored glasses and start seeing the forest for the rotted trees.
Funny how my Toyota was built in US factory in California, with over 75 percent US parts with US labor yet the rednecks still chant "boy, you should buy american" yet their chevrolet was built in mexico with over 50 percent of parts being made in china and canada. buy american my ass.
back to the XTL, you can't compare it to a Kenwood or Vertex because NEITHER HAS PUT OUT A P25 OFFERING yet. I still say it is a ripoff. The whole scam about P25 is "interoperability" yet this radio is limited to ONE single system key. That's plain retarded. Even an MCS2000 model I can have more than one system key. If the goal was to offer an interoperable radio at an affordable price they missed out bigtime here.
as far as service, I have no problems with Vertex. Lightning took out our RX board in our VXR7000 VHF repeater. I called Vertex the next day, a new board was shipped UPS and in 48 hours it was back on the air. Oh yeah, it was only 106.00. The same part from Ma M would have cost 10,000 dollars, required a DNA sample, signed EULA and scouts honor not to resell it...please. And when I was doing alignment on the board I ran into an issue with my RSS being out of date. I called Vertex and while I was on the phone, the tech emailed me the latest RSS. you get that type of one on one support from ma M if your just a little old end user like me?
if Motorola had a cheerleading squad some of you would make great captains. too bad you don't get paid for all your free propaganda.
