The new Quantar RSS [Version 13]

Post by xmo »

A while back ASTROMODAT posted that the 4Q 2004 Motorola product announcements included reference to a new release of the Quantar RSS.

It is now shipping. As previously posted - this release is compatible with Windows, i.e. it will run correctly in Windows but it isn't a Windows App. It just runs in a Command Prompt window.

I don't usually get too excited about new product releases [Larry does - he must have some sales blood running in his veins], but I found something in the Version 13 RSS manual that does warrant getting excited!

There is a complete section on version compatibility. This includes which version RSS works with which version of station control firmware, exciter firmware, wireline firmware, etc. Not just the version numbers but even the part numbers on the chips, which features are supported, what options are available, etc.

This information will be invaluable for those buying a used station, for determining a station's capabilities, for determining if a spare board will work in a particular station, etc.

Actually - it appears that this compatiblity information has been in the Quantar RSS manual since the last release [R12.03.00] - still - if you haven't gotten an upgrade recently - now's the time to get one.
