National Astro Simplex

Post by wb4bsd »

Is there an unofficial national simplex freq (ham or non-ham) that everyone is programming in their radios these days?

Nationbl Bat Channel...

Post by Tom in D.C. »

I believe that the closest we've come to this is 151.88 mHz with a DPL of 143, simplex of course. It's a MURS channel and it's analog.

Unfortunately, at several hamfests all I've heard is fools messing around on the channel and not responding to calls, and they were using the DPL.

Me, I'll stick to 146.52/55/58, or maybe the local channel we use in the DC area which is 446.225 simplex with a 5A PL, again Simplex analog.

If you want commercial freq.'s look into getting licensed on a non repeater nation wide channel or strap the radio in astro with a NAC on the UHF/VHF "Family" freq.'s (with the legal pwr set as per the rules :x )
 If you walk by a booth/tailgate hearing your comms over bubba-buttcrack's new scanner, THEN slide the rocker switch to OFB

As for HAM freq.'s look very closely at the band plans.
...there are simplex freq.'s in the 147's/etc and even more in the 70cm plan if you look. read into the description of the operations the ARRL
(Communist Party) has set up.
Also remember that as long as your NOT interfering with a repeater you can use the input/output freq. (Really tough on 2m).

But I stay away from the bottom of the plans, SSB/Beacon/Sat freq.'s and ALWAYS monitor your choice of CommChannels before you choose.

Keep an eye out for the CHUD's also

I've got the Dayton plan programmed in both my VHF and UHF astros. They are in my opinion, the closest thing to national astro simplex freqs. I bumped into quite a few folks on those freqs at Dayton, but so far no where else.

There is of of course, non amateur freqs on that list. Do a search and you will see what I mean.

Too many people were using astro in Orlando ham fest, so I used ProVoice/DES for comms at my table :P that threw a loop on everyone trying to listen in...heheh

Of course if you are using DES-OFB it wouldnt matter, but astros raise too many eyebrows at ham fests.
