Gang Charger Power Supply Noisy

Post by Daniel Watson »

I have a couple of these power supplies for my gang charger and 1 for powering up mobiles. They make sounds like chirping or whinning sounds. It sometimes sounds like something sizzling. I took the cover off and it sounds like the noise is coming from a transformer. I have heard of many problems like this. Is there a common problem with these power supplies? And if so, What is the remedy? Thank you

that's a common death rattle for a transformer, moto won't give you shizz for repair info or even specs or anything, but i've had the same sizzling come out of PSUs, APUs, Load managers anything with coils like that.

Gang Charger Astec Power Supply

Post by Daniel Watson »

Well I have disassembled the power supply and YES, It is Astec and the company has a website. I could not find any info or replacement parts but I ask the company to supply information for repair/manuals, replacement parts so we will see what happens. Any one that has information about the Astec power supplies sure would be useful.

I resuscitated a dead Saber gang charger a while ago. Had the same sizzling sound upon power up.

Opened the PS and found a toroid had broken off the pcb. Resoldered it and it was as good as new!

May or may not be your problem but just a suggestion.
