2003 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab

Post by RidgeRunner »

Just did a TK-630 and TK-830 set up for dual band in my truck. The install was a breeze and the Dodge was very easy to work on. The install came out great! Here is one pic if anyone wants to see more or other information let me know!

Nice looking install. Is there a lot of room in the new dodge trucks to work with?

yes there is

Yes there is, that picture I took was crooked, but the two radios are under my drivers side seat. Where I have the radio mounted in the dash that whole assembly came apart with ease (hence nothing broke) for someone who doesnt really know much about radio would assume that the radio in my truck is factory install since it is mounted flush in the dash. Routing antenna and power cables were a cinch. I didnt have to do any modificatoins to the truck other than drilling the holes in the roof and a hole in the console compartment in my dash to route the controll cable to my controll head. The radios have plenty of room and ventilation for them will not be an issue since its not to confined down there.

What was in that opening before you mounted the Kenwood there? You mentioned two radios, but there is only one in the picture. What kind of antennas did you use?

It is two radios with one control head. Its a TK-630 (tune to 6 meters) and a TK-830 (tuned to 70CM) Then the two radios are conected with a KRK-4DB into one control head. So that is why you only see one head. The radios themself are mounted under my drivers side seat. There was nothing in the hole where the control head is now. It was just an empty pocket for CDs, Maps, sunglasses or whatever you want. I figured it would make a perfect place for a radio.

Where'd you tap your power ? I'm doing the remainder of my install this weekend, already have the dash out and put a A-4 Spectra head in that same dash pocket. Modified a Maxtrac sleeve bracket for that 'in dash' look.

Nice job. Isn't the 630/830 with the KRK4DB a beautiful setup? I have a similar setup that's going back in my Durango when I get all the parts in (antenna mounts are STILL backordered)

I tapped the power from out under the hood, there is a post that is tried directly to the battery that had nothing on it. I went there for my A lead. For ground it is under the driver side seat. I mounted the radios under ther as well. I used a "dura-bomb" power block feed your A into one end then use the fuse you want on the other side for what you want to power. The only thing that has changed in those pictures is the GTX is gone and a Spectra high power is in its place!
