Diffrence between 3500 or 3000 or even 5000?

Guys, I am considering buying a xts 3500. I need to know the diffrence's between the 3000 and 3500?

Also these are the specs he gave me

the 3500 is a strange beast.

it was (is?) a transition model from the 3k to the 5k that was mainly designed for support of type 1 encryption (or is that type 3? i forget)

the only thing a 3500 can do that a 3000 can't is support type 1 crypto - and it boots a lot faster (like a 5000) - some say the volume is a little louder, but not in my experience.

anyway, while the flashcode you list might function in the radio - the 8 in the 6th digit is most unusual (indicates smartzone trunking) - when the radio was NEVER *EVER* offered in anything other than conventional from Moto.

IMHO, the host and dsp of that radio is old too.


oh, and almost forgot - there is no windoze software for the 3500, just DOS RSS.

and the 3500 uses COMPLETELY different secure hardware (different from AS/XTS 3000 and XTS 5000)

Has anyone had any experiance with the recieve quality of the xts3500? My Xts5000 blows away any portable I have even owned including the Xts3000 as far as sensitivity and audio quality.

Is the reciever on the Xts3500 comparable to the xts5000 or the xts3000?

XTS3500:

Sandard VHF/UHF band limits are 136-178, 380-470, and 450-520 MHz.

Much better internal shielding.

Certified by no such agency to take top of the line encryption technology.

If you are using IMBE you can turn on 'transmit audio scaling' which improves the average digital 'talk power'. It is a sort of AGC system that gives more consistent IMBE TX audio. This great feature really works well.

Secure-clear switch can be programmed to operate as zone select.

I have a VHF 3500, same flash as yours. I use it daily and haven't ever had any trouble with it. It does boot much faster than the 3000.

As far as recieve sensitivity/transmit audio, blah blah.

I think it's comperable to the 3000 as far as all the above. I can't tell a difference anyway.

I DONT like that there isn't any Bill Gates means to program the booger. I never liked the MTSX style RSS interface. Its confusing and takes forever to program or change the programming...

Aside from that, I am very happy with my 3500, (aside from the fact it doesnt support 2-tone encode/decoding). I don't know if it supports the trunking or not, never been anywhere that uses a VHF trunked system before so who knows.
