Encryption Issue in XTS3K

Post by wyocommo »

Have several Model 0105956V67 encryption boards that refuse to operate in XTS3K. Other model boards work find, just not these. Radio gives error code indicating it does not recognize board is installed. This particular board is the version that is supposed to do everything but DVP. Anyone seen anything similar?

Time to show my ignorance. Where is this info on the board or what format is it in? The paper label has 243-02 and GAM020FMBK.

install module

turn on secure hardware in the software

boot radio

put into self test mode

first HOST
then DSP

then

EMC VERSION

i am willing to bet you have some old secure hardware.... host 7/dsp 8 is very picky... you have to have at least EMC 2.xx (memory check here - i think) for the board to function....just checked my radio, my board is EMC 2.12 and works fine w/ host 7/dsp8

I have 3.56 EMC in this unit. I am beginning to think it is something peculiar to this secure board model, since other secure boards work fine in this radio.
I have tried 3 different boards in the three different radios with the same result.

xts again

I stand corrected. Read wrong radio. I cannot read the EMC version because the radio does not recognize that the board is installed. It gives an error 09-10 which indicates that the micro was unable to communicate with the module.

yes, i have DEFINATELY experienced what you are seeing.

the EMC in the board is too old for the host to recognize it.

to verify, the best way is to find a host 5/6 xts and try to boot it with the board installed

Very strange. I've seen several boards with that exact part number, and none of them were any older than R03.5x.

Of course, there's also the potential that the crypto board is simply b0rked...

Could be that all three boards are bad. I will look for an older host and dsp and try them on that.

Does there exist a list of EMC versions and their respective compatible firmware? If not, does anyone have the knowledge to compile one?

It would be very helpful when trying to match a module to a portable and could potentially save a lot of money and headaches.
