Install 1986 TransAm / Strobes / Siren

Post by Aces-Warehouse »

I am currently outfitting my 1986 T/A and I have hopefully acquired the following for install

(1) SVP SA-500 Siren
(2) UPS-64C 4Port Strobe Power Packs
(1) Whelen 100Watt Siren Speaker
(1) Self Contained DashMiser

I am going to put strobe bulbs in the reverse and tail lights, this is 4 total, I am looking for ideas for the other four. I am thinking about removing the fog bulbs and sealing strobe tubes in them....

Where in this vehicle is the SA-500 best suitable for install... I mounted the speaker already under the hood behind the headlamps.

I am looking for ideas.

I have a 2 1/2" x 1" B/W Camera mounted to the headliner behind the rearview, this is connected to the ign and ran to a hidden vcr.

I am going to install OEM looking switches in the center console between the window switches.

So any ideas for the strobe power supplies and the siren?

Maybe beneath the driver and passenger seat for the power supplies?

I do hope you're going to install a sweeping red lightstick on the nose/grille...

bwhahahaha - I think the short 911ep sticks (LS12's) will do the knightrider pattern!

If you are doing all OEM switches, what about doing a hidden/remote switches for the siren as well? Beats having a big control head in something that clearly is not a marked, response vehicle.

Yeah, I thought about that, but I dont want to tear the siren apart and wire it myself.....

The one I am getting is the SVP-SA500 maybe a duplicate Carson-SA 500 as well if they will respond for me....

So, I am thinking the siren control will be in the factory center console, should fit snug there..... just pop the console open and either turn on siren, or flip it to manual for the horn operation... Then wire the cut-out to the door so I can easily forget to open the console and turn it back off.... I will be remaking the center console later completly fabricated to look nicer...

How about front strobe locations? I am thinking headlamp wig/wags wired to the headlamp motors to flip them up before wigwagin.... Replacing the fog h3 bulbs with the strobe tubes for oem look.... maybe in the turn signals but they are so dayum small.

I am doing slightly well on my POV install. The dash light is a Code 3 Dashlaser, I am attempting to obtain some pop-in strobes for the power supplies and will post some pictures/video segments when I get them.

I am looking for a good source for OEM Round Rocker SPST DPDT Switches. The little black ones. Can be lighted or not.

Let me know.

Well, I just did an 877' T/A for a customer this past summer and he also wanted strobes in the front of the vehicle. After about an hour of trying to see what looked good (not much did) we decided on wig-wags. They looked good when operating and were a heel of alot less expensive.

If you are going to use wig-wags, I would STRONGLY suggest a multi pattern pack, like the ones from Sho-Me. They run through 4 or 5 patterns and it not only breaks up the monotony of the back and forth thing, but they are really eye catching!

Another suggestion would be to measure the size of your fog light cutouts and look for some LEDs that would fit in the spaces. As for the siren, we went with the remote mount from Sho-Me and it worked perfectly as they were out of the way.

Now, for your strobe packs for the rear. If you don't use the storage compartment that is molded into the plastic panel at the back of the car in the cargo area, I would suggest putting it there. If you do use it. Remove the panel all together and place the pack behind it. There should be plenty of room. Just make sure you don't have any moisture problems in that area. Alot of those Camaros and T/As were notorious for leakage there.

Good luck with the project.

Thanks for the info. I have a hidden time-lapse recorder in the back right area. I have both sealed very well for stuff such as this. The left side I will probably put the packs there. Great idea.

The front fog area, when properly used, I can fit the whelen linear 3x7's directly behind them, removing the fog lights. Will work if I avoid major shock to the area from pot holes.

It seems like strobes in the tails and in the fog area is the only options.... I have a Dash Laser on the dash, it looks great. I tried a dashmiser clone in the back bay, no avail. I dont want to use wig-wags because of the Flip Up headlights. I prefer the sleek look in the daylight, wouldn't want them popping up just for the wig-wag usage, the motors go out quickly enough.

I am wondering if I can fit pop-in tubes in the fron turn signal area, the one next to the headlamps on the inner side.
