Astro Saber w/DES to DES-XL upgrade

I have an H04RDF9PW7AN with flashcode: 180001-000000-9, R04.00.03, DSP I06.01.00, and with the DES encryption module installed: KG1 DES. When I install a NTN1153D (DES-XL) encryption module, I get an Error 09/10 displayed and NONE displayed for KG1 and KG2.

I know how to remove and replace the module, but I'm new to Astro encryption programming. Am I missing a step when I just remove the DES module and replace it with a DES-XL module? Any help would be appreciated.

You have really old firmware. The 1153D may have firmware too new to be compatible with your radio. You may also have a failed encryption module - can you test the module in another radio to verify it's working properly?
