Astro Spectra Plus

Post by jts203 »

I have a VHF Astro Spectra Plus with the W7 front and a factory programming cable. When turning on the radio, it shows error 503, but then powers up and transmits and receives. When I try to read the radio, when I plug the cable in the radio seems to shut down, but beeps, and I am wondering if this is normal or not. I'm trying to determine a problem with the radio or the cable to start with. The software indicates a communication error with the radio.

Thanks.

Huh? I didn't think Moto made a VHF Astro Spectra PLUS, I thought they were all 800. What is the model number?

They made astro spectra +'s.

They were the only ones that did 9600 trunking if I recall, and might feature an 8mb vocon.

Never really had one, seen it, or hit HOME 5 times on one to see what was under the hood - so that's about as far as I can go with my level of knoledge of them.

They do exist to support one thing - 9600 trunking.

The Astro Spectra Plus is a current product. The VHF models were added to the service manual with FMR-2035A-1 dated 1-27-03.

You can tell if the radio is a Spectra Plus because it says so every time you power it up - the display will briefly read "SPECTRA+"

It is normal for the display to go blank when you plug in the HKN6155 programming cable. We have had some trouble with those cables - there may be a product services fix for that - if you cannot read your radio I suggest you call the CPS help 800 number.

Alex, re-read my post. I didn't know MOT made a VHF version in addition to the 800Mhz. The spec sheets I have are all 800.

Thanks xmo for the update.

There are a zillion model numbers - here is one comparison:

D04KKH9PW7AN = 146-174 MHz 25-50 Watt 255 Chan W7 Astro Spectra

D04KKH9SW7AN = 146-174 MHz 25-50 Watt 512 Chan W7 Astro Spectra Plus

That radio should have a 4 meg vocon in it, if it's the one you bought at Dayton.

Lance: What?
Kilgore: Napalm, son. Nothing in the world smells like that.
Kilgore: I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for 12 hours. When it was all over, I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory. Someday this war's gonna end...
