i have the chance to get one of these compact and portable looking RIBs for $50. anyone know if they work ok? do aftermarket boxes like these have any sort of reputation for corrupting radios, etc? is there any reason why i should avoid this box, compared to a motorola brand RIB? i'm looking to program HT1k, Saber I, and GP300/350 portables.

There are alot of aftermarket rib boxes out
there and most will work fine with most radios but it has been my experience that
a motorola rib will work better with no problems. I have had codeplug corruption
problems in the past when I used aftermarket
ribs I bought a motorola rib and I do not have any more problems with corrupting codeplugs. You can find a Motorola rib box
on Ebay for about $150.00 to $200.0 it is worth the money

I'd definitely agree with Astroman. No sense cheaping out on the RIB when an aftermarket unit can cause some very expensive problems in a very expensive radio. It's like putting 25 dollar tires on a Corvette ZR-1.
