I also posted this in the "General" area, in case a moderator want's to yell at me.. sorry about that.
Problem: Customer has existing analog Smartnet system - /\/\otorola is cancelling the last remaining analog controller (actually dual mode, analog and digital) in December, 2006.
Customer needs to seriously consider upgrade to digital, due to decreasing support on all things analog from /\/\.
There is a migration path to Astro digital, allowing a gradual move, but still only one voice channel per RF channel, and the radios are really REALLY expensive if you are used to using $900.00-$1k radios.
Another path is the /\/\ Harmony system (IDEN) which is basically the Nextel system for private use. Subscriber units are in the same ballpark as the customer has been paying, but infrastructure is more expensive. In addition, no migration path exists. However, you get 6 voice paths per RF channel thanks to TDMA.
The handsets will product .6 watts as opposed to the 3 watts the customer has been using.. no more 40 mile coverage.
Any comments? Suggestions? Warnings? Alternatives?
Thanks!

No yelling. I can see how this subject can fall into several categories, but you'll probably get maximum exposure in the general forum. I'll keep that one open.
