Astro Saber Rugged?

Post by bellersley »

I'm wondering. I have an Astro Saber II non-ruggedized right now.

What would be involved in converting it to a Ruggedized radio? More specifically, I'm looking for a radio that doesn't care if it goes for a swim.

heres the deal with the R radio.

Just buy putting the radio into a rugged housing does not make it water proof all by itself. You will need to have the radio vacuum checked and pressurized before it will be waterproof. there is also a submersible saber that is not a rugged model. you might find one of those cases easier.

The last time i priced a rugged case for a saber 1 was last month. I needed one for work (Navy) and my local shop told me that even today, the price was around $4,000.00 for that model 1 case. So look for one on ebay. If you send one back to motorola and use it as a swap, then the price goes down significantly.

good luck.
