What radios do you own?: Analogue, Digital x lots

XTS5000 + Encryption + I.S.

Post by mrtor »

Hi All

Can someone better in the know than I answer this question. Is there such a beast a fully Intrinsically (is that spelt right ??) Safe model of the XTS5000 with DES encryption ?

I've been told our multi million dollar P25 9600 Baud trunking system can't give the firies I.S. radios with Encryption due to "Issues" surrounding the Encryption board.

Surely this is incorrect ??

Any ideas Batlaber's ??

Thanks in advance
Mike

As long as the radio is used with the proper IS accesories (battery, speaker mic etc) there shouldn't be a problem. There are many XTS radios in service with encyption that are IS.

I suspect it may be something else, or terms mixed up?

Why would the firies need encryption?

I agree, sounds like a foolish waste of money to me, however the Vic. state government apparently originally wanted ALL users, Police, Fire, Ambo's to be encyrpted.

The firies apparently will be Unencrypted due to what we have been told is an intrinsically safe issue ???

Um, no.

Not an IS issue. Someone's issue, but not a IS issue.
