Which Motorola HT has the best receive audio ?

Post by Tom Giantonio »

I know this may be a loaded question, but here it goes.

Which Mototola HT do you think has the best receive audio?

I have owned an HT-1000 and I was not really impressed.
I own a GP-350 and I do like the audio from that radio.
I also own a Saber 1 and I like that radio also.
Strangely enough, the Saber 1 and the GP-350 are pretty close in audio quality. I actually think I can crank the GP a bit higher before distortion.

Does anyone have experience with some of the newer radios like the HT-750 and the HT-1250?
Any others.....
Thanks, Tom/G, N1VVD

It's older, but I like the audio from my MT1000. I like my old GE MPS also, but it is a brick. I carry the MT1000 more than my MT2000, which I only use when I need the extra channels.

My vote is for the analog Saber. Arguably one of the finest portables Motorola ever produced. I also like the super quiet and sensitive receiver Sabers have. I can hear things with 20db quieting on my VHF Saber that sound "hissy" on my Jedi's or Visar.

I have only used a few old models ht200, ht220, mx340, all were better than the GE PE which is of comparable vintage.

The XTS3000, XTS5000 are the only new ones I have used very much, RX (or TX) audio is no where near as good as that of a GE MPA unit.

Thanks for all your input....
I haven't used my Saber 1 enough to really notice the superior receive.
Although now that you mention it, I have been able to walk across my basement with it and it keeps receiving quite well.
I'll have to compare it to the GP-350 also.

Thats an interesting note that the newer XTS3000 and 5000 radios don't sounds as good as other motorola radios or the MPA's.

I really like the natural tone of the MPA's and they definately have some low end (bass) qualities to them.
The Sabers and my GP-350 are louder then the MPA. but they don't sound as nice or as natural as the MPA.

I also briefly listened to a new Vertex VX-170 2 meter HAM radio a few weeks back and that radio is a nice improvement over the VX-150.
(And the VX-150 was no slouch for a HAM radio)

Thanks, Tom/G
