Astro Spectra W7 Secure question

Post by Cipher77 »

I have an astro spectra W7 & an Astro Saber secure module (same as an astro spectra module right???) does this module require a "hybrid carrier" board like the old analog spectras? I'm just scratching my head trying to figure out how to install this thing..........The connector on the module is obviously way too small..............

Any info will help.

Thanx,

What radios do you own?: Too many!

No, it does not use a carrier board. It uses the same module as the Astro Saber and it plugs directly into the Astro Spectra.

It's underneath one of the shields. It will plug right into one of the boards. I'm sorry I can't remember which one, but I assure you that if you have an Astro Saber module, it will fit in and work on an Astro Spectra.

It actually plugs into the vocon. You'll need to pull the top cover off, pull the long Torx screws, pull the vocon package up (big flat silver thing) and pull that housing apart. The connector is inside.

Beware that newer-model UCMs may not work with older Astro Spectras without modifications due to clock line loading issues. There's an SRN on the matter somewhere.
