Problem setting low power on Spectra Plus

Post by njscan »

Wondering if anyone has run into this problem or can offer any advice. Just completed converting a high power (trunk mount) analog Spectra to Spectra Plus. The radio works fine, but I’m unable to adjust the low power setting.

Unit puts out about 90watts. In either high or low power mode. Adjusting low power, does not result in any error messages, but does not lower power. If there is a control voltage related to low power, it’s as if the PA isn’t seeing it.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Not to be nit picky, but there is the analog spectra (Conventional, Trunked, Enhanced (spectra II), and the astro series which includes the Digtial Spectra, Digital Spectra Plus (an Astro25 radio), XTL etc. Two very different animals.

Is it an Astro model or an analog model? Also, what kind of converstion did you do? We need the details for a starting point.

OK, I understand.
Started out with an analog hi power Spectra.
Changed out all required boards and it's now an Astro Spectra + (digital). Radio works fine, just won't allow adjustment of low power.
Sorry for confusion.

Have you don't a complete alignment of the radio? Thru the service menu you should be able to set it, however it required it to be on a service monitor

Complete alignment was done - using a service monitor. Has assistance from someone who is quite familiar with Astro products.

Ran into two minor problems:
1. For power settings, radio would not key up in response to keyboard command from the PC.

2. Varying the low power setting made no difference when the radio is put into the low power mode.

All other aspects of programming and operation respond fine and the performance meets or exceeds spec. It's almost as if the control voltage that sets the low power level isn't being recognized.
