Some of you may have read my earlier postings about using a reverse freq Quantar BASE to talk to another Quantar Rptr so we could pass DATA through the big rptr since our 56K DDS ckt is dead...It worked BUT had one problem.....turn around audio...
when the dispatch console is keyed, audio goes from console to CEB to DIU to BASE Quantar.....RF to RPTR....yet unkey and you get a sec or two or return audio....not bad BUT other consoles hear the delay audio PLUS the NON delayed audio at the same time and it drives them batty (no pun there!).....Is there a way I can MUTE the RX audio of the BASE Quantar when it is transmitting? OR is there a way to do it in the DIU or CEB card??? As long as I can KILL the return path from the Rptr when the BASE Quantar is transmitting..that would fix it!! Any ideas or suggestions? I cannot find anything in RSS (V13) to help at the rptr.
Thanks in advance!
Chris

The only problem with programming it for HDX mode rather than FDX is that if this repeater system is used for a Public Safety application, and a police officer steps on the dispatcher during a Code situation, the dispatcher will NOT hear him, until she unkeys (which could be too late!). Safety issue.

- What radios do you own?: Motorola, GE, Kenwood, Yaesu
Not public service but is used in a public utility (gas) setup...
I DID try setting the 4wire wireline in the Quantar to Half Duplex and it worked fine..got rid of the echo/delay to the consoles when another one is keyed...(and that is what I wanted...besides, with the BASE Quantar acting as a user radio, it doesnt matter anyway...a user out in the field may not be able to override the BASE Quantar signal if the dispatcher is keyed...remember this setup is an emergency setup only since we lost the ckts to the towers)

Glad to hear you got your system working well with HDX. The really fun thing about the DIU-3000 is that you could spend a good part of a lifetime learning about all of its bells, whistles, tricks and features, and there would STILL be many things it can do, hoops it can jump through, etc. that you tend to discover once the need arises. I've been programming DIU-3000's for several years now, and yet I still only have used maybe 5% of what it can do. I've mentioned before that a Quantar is only a shodow of what it really can be without a DIU-3000 to really make it sing. Have fun!
