XTS 3000 I&II hot mic question
We have a few VHF conventional XTS5000 that I enabled the "hot mic" option on. I wish to do the same with approximately 75 XTS3000 I's and II's, but that option is not highlighted in the software. Is that a firmware upgrade, or am I not turning on something on another page? This is P25, not MDC.

That did not work either, I had enabled that option.

- What radios do you own?: FPP Railroad XTL9000 Cleancab
Don't quote me on this, becuase i've never really had a chance to mess around with many XTS's, but I believe hot mic is used to activate a radio remotely so a dispatcher, supervisor, ect. can listen in. So if I hit my emergency button and a dispatcher answers, but does not here my reply, they can open my mic and monitor.

I believe the feature your (VE9MP) is speaking of is Remote Monitor. That's usually an option in the MDC configuration. You can "ping" a radio with MDC and have it's Mic turn on for a period of time set in the radio, and hear all the audio in a room.
Console/MDC guru's correct me - but this would allow you to hit emergency and allow the dispatcher to hear what your saying without holding down ptt etc.

All of the above is correct. Our local police have Hot Mic enabled, so they can tap the emergency button if they are confronted by an assailant. Dispatch & everyone else on the channel will hear what's going on so they can send back up or whatever, and the assailant has no idea he's being heard.alex wrote:I believe the feature your (VE9MP) is speaking of is Remote Monitor. I have no idea why the Hot Mic wouldn't be available as a feature...unless you have very old firmware or something. What's your HOST/DSP & Flashcode?

Ok, that's one thing down. Now, in the 'radio information' screen of the CPS, look under the 'tracking' tab & you'll see the 'firmware' and 'DSP software' versions. Let us know what they show. You'll have to read a radio directly, reading an archived codeplug will just show 'unknown' in these fields.BJMCDANIEL wrote:5000010000008

hot mic
Odd, I have never seen hot mic not work properly. Maybe in very old firmware just as Wavetar suggested, when MDC didnt work, I could see that, but hot mic is an imbedded feature of MDC1200 and P25 emergency, so unless you have a strange CPS bug or something, I dont see why it wouldnt work.
For VE9MP & XM radio:
Hot mic and remote monitor are actually two different features. When emergency is activated, you can have the radio transmit up to 240 seconds of audio after the emergency packet (hot mic). Remote monitor/remote trace (required in your flashcode to work) is so you'll be able to key the radio from the console and monitor what's going on, emergency or not.
Hot mic is only good when the emergency button has been pressed.
