Programming an XTS5000

Post by flashport »

I have an XTS5000 Model III UHF 450-527Mhz unit and i was looking to buy the original /\/\ programming equipment and software and i was wondering if the USB cable would be a better option to the RS232 lead or do they both work just as well as each other on these radios.

The USB cable works fine and programs the radio quicker (helpful if you've got a loaded archive). Also if you ever do any Flash upgrades or firmware refreshes the USB cable is faster.

Last, a lot of new smaller laptops are eliminating serial ports so the USB cable would be a good choice if you are ever contemplating upgrading your laptop.

AFAIK, my laptop only supports USB1. Will I still be able to program using the USB cable or should I order the serial cable?

Mike,
USB 1 works fine using my Dell C840 and as George said it is way quicker than using the serial port.
