XTS5K screen issues...

Post by Renamon »

Hey all. I am having issues with my 5K screen.

The screen is going "bonkers" while I am transmitting on the radio. The rest of the radio functions fine while this is going on...

1) In this pic, the screen has faded out almost completely...

2) In this pic, the screen has done the opposite and gone dark...

3) In this pic, there is extra "stuff / jibberish" along the top of the screen...

4) In this pic, the screen has "removed" icons; i.e. the direct symbol.

5) The screen will also flip upside down or move stuff around, i.e. the low battery symbol...

To clear any of these issues, I have to power cycle the radio. These happen randomly while I am Tx'ing only.

I was told that a new screen for my bandsplit (VHF) would fix the issue, but the pics are of THE NEW SCREEN. I put in the "old" screen and got the same result. I called /\/\ and insured that I had bought the right screen (VHF) and I had.

Now what?

YOU MISSED THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THE DESCRIPTION OF YOUR PROBLEM.

what is the origin of your radio?

if it's factory, SEND IT BACK.

if it's not - you have one of two things - a bad shield somewhere that is allowing RF into the screen (this is the difference between the VHF and other displays - as you noted - you are certain you have the correct screen)

or.... the display driver on your vocon is shot.

Yep, Doug's right... you've replaced the screen, so it's not an LCD bonding issue. Either RF, a driver, or one of the interconnects.

Send it home to mommy for a little flat-rate TLC, if it's a legit unit.

Yea, its legit. I thought I might have to send it back. I was going to get the firmware upgraded, so ill just send it in and see how it goes. Thanks!
