My guess is that this unit was inhibited before it was used as a movie prop as it turns on does the self test and shuts off...but we have no way to know it was version cps it was last programmed with do we...just wondering if i'd be able to put a generic codeplug back in and tune it if I knew the proper people? Obviously something can be done with it as there are 44 bids...and i'm sure some of the people bidding read this board.

Radios don't get inhibited for the fun of it - most systems nuke radios only if they're known pirates, or stolen.
He said he bought it off the street, and is not aware of the radio's history. Those are some huge warning bells, right there.
I dare say most of those bidders do not know it's inhibited - they're most likely just assuming it has some fault that, if it can be fixed fairly cheaply, would mean they could have a cheap XTS.
Personally, I'd stay the hell away from it.

First, I think the bids are crap.

The XTS is listed in Upper Darby, PA. Go to the crazy bidder's feedback page, then check one of his auctions (one where the feedback sender is listed as buyer). Hmm, Upper Darby, PA again. Strange, right?
Regardless, trafficking stolen goods isn't good, and I'd be willing to bet that radio is hot. Since he was brilliant enough to list the complete serial, it would be interesting if one of our LE members might run it through NCIC and contact the agency.

The two approved ways to get the radio to work:
1-Find out who inhibited the radio, and send it to them and have them uninhibit it for you (which they may do if you leave no where near the system)
2-Send it to Motorola (call them first) and clearly explain that you bought this new, and this is what may have happened to it, and pay the flat rate (375?) fee.
Other than that, unless you have a good codeplug to maybe clone into it (read before the radio was inhibited) there isn't much you can do with the standard software.
You could try calling Motorola and see who the orginal purchaser of the radio is and contact them directly, but I don't think Motorola will give that up.

I think it got removed due to the nature of the listing rather than the shill bidding. Though i could be wrong...
If you search for his ebay username his account is still active, not suspended as it would have been for shill bidding.
I suspect the auction just got nuked...
