XTS5000 Impres battery question
Hello all, quick question. On an XTS5000R mod 2 when used with a properly initiated Impres battery, will the battery fuel gauge always appear on the display of the radio? Or does that have to do with radio firmware versions. Any input would be great.
Thanks,

Ok, I think I got it. The Impress batteries that I have been trying to use all along were bought as "new old stock" batteries with 2003 date codes. So with having no luck getting the impress features to work with them, I bought a brand new Impress battery from the big M with a 2006 date code. I put it on my mod 2 XTS, and began charging it. About 2 hours later I got the solid green on the charger. Then, the suspence began. I turned on the radio and look what appeared. A battery fuel gauge! It also gave me a full read out in the battery menu. Problem solved. Just thought I would share my interesting little story.

FYI, the batteries have to be charged the first time with an impres charger. If those NOS batteries were charged with a non-impres charger on their first cycle, the impres functionality was permanently disabled (as is my understanding.)
Also, I recall someone posting info regarding an SRN on older impres batteries... I seem to recall them having some sort of disappearing-battery-gauge issue. But I've slept since then...

That’s exactly the problem I think happened with my NOS batteries. When they were new, someone charged them in a reg charger. They definatly lost there Impres ability. The brand new 06 battery initialized, charged and works flawlessly on my XTS. I think that’s the last time I buy NOS Impress batteries. Lol.

It's called the "7-day rule" by Motorola, and it still applies to Impress batteries being made today. If you go more than 7 days between battery charges with an impress charger, the fuel gauge & other info will disappear. It will reappear the next time the battery is charged in an impress charger. There is an SRN about it, which I did post at one point, although I'm too lazy to find it at the moment.tvsjr wrote:

I knew about that one... but I thought there was a bad batch of impres packs at some point a few years back? I've slept since then, don't remember details...wavetar wrote: It's called the "7-day rule" by Motorola, and it still applies to Impress batteries being made today. I'm sure there was, considering there's firmware in the batteries & it's been updated lots of times since.tvsjr wrote:I knew about that one... but I thought there was a bad batch of impres packs at some point a few years back? That is correct, only the Impress batteries will show a 'fuel guage' on the XTS2500/5000.compuman81 wrote:you mean regular motorola batteries wont show a fuel gage like my 1250? I can't get any of my motorola batteries to display anything on my xts5000

Re: XTS5000 Impres battery question
I know this is an old post, but I have an impress question, I just received in a new v3.4 impress charger and new NTN9858C Impress batteries. I just ran the first battery through the charger this morning, which took like forever and at the same time I went into the xts2500 radio that has ver 9.00.00 firmware and turned on the Batt feature in the menu. Once the battery was completed with it's charging (solid green) I clicked it onto the radio and didn't see the battery guage and the Rated Cap %, Rem Cap are blank and the Est Charges is showing 2.
Did I do something wrong? Everything is brand new and the batt's haven't been chearged prior with a convetional charger that I'm aware of. Did I miss something in CPS to turn on the battery guage?
Thanks
Mark

What host and DSP firmware is present in your XTS 2500?

Re: XTS5000 Impres battery question
DSP is 9.00.00 and Firmware is 9.00.00
Re: XTS5000 Impres battery question
You haven't done anything wrong. Just use the battery as you normally would. After a few charges the battery info will show. Ive had this same experience with ALL the impres batteries I have used that are "new".

Thanks Jason...I'll try it out for a few cycles.
Re:
I got the same problem. Will it recover if I charge it several times?nickburns wrote:I'm wondering the same. If you program the battery button on the display, it shows CAPACITY ---, INIT 01/05, and EST CHGS as -----
And, I dont see a battery gauge either.

Re: XTS5000 Impres battery question
Well I pulled a third one off the shelf today and charged it in the impress charger and the indicator came right up.
The other 2 must be bad or something. I'll cycle it a few more times to see what happens or back they go.
EDIT
After the third cycle the other 2 batteries came up and now display on the radio correctly. Thanks for everyone's replies.
