Working on a large project here in MN and can't seem to locate cables in the 5 state area. Can anyone get these cables? I need the following:
Part Numbers are from Motorola
HKN6182 KVL CABLE FOR XTL5000 with 05 CONTROL HEAD
HKN6183 CPS PROGRAMMING CABLE FOR XTL5000
These cable will work with XTL2500 also.
We need to have some 300 radios programmed by the second week of December so please let me know ASAP.

They come up as avaliable, list is $43.75 for the KVL cable, $66.50 list for the programming cable, which are also orderable.800RadioGeek wrote:HKN6182 KVL CABLE FOR XTL5000 with 05 CONTROL HEAD

Dealers can't get them @ all for you?
MOl is saying an estimated ship date of today for the KVL cable, as well as an estimated ship date of 11/28/2005 for the control head programming cable, and is flagged as "N" for available... So that might mean "maybe" they will ship on or before that date.

This is a Motorola OOPS.
The 05 head programs through the mic jack which is a round connector so the old XTL/Astro Spectra+ cable won't work. The programming cable for the 05 head is the same one that does the high power XTL so when they came out with the 05 head they did not need a new cable. Somebody probably checked and said - "existing part number - no problem"
What they did not do was check to see HOW MANY cables were in stock - they probably only had 10 - and once hundreds of customers got their new 05 heads - the orders for this cable came pouring in - so everybody has been waiting while Motorola gets some made.

XTL 2500 Programming Cable made from mic cable?
Does anyone have the HKN6183A cable and could they reverse engineer a schematic? Maybe we can take the new mic cable apart and connect it to a serial 9 pin connection until Motorla has the cables in stock.

There's a little sealed piece in the middle of the cable which is either a RS232 to TTL converter or a RS232 to USB.sonicb wrote:Does anyone have the HKN6183A cable and could they reverse engineer a schematic? I've got the serial cable version.
